Sydney has a temperate climate with warm summers and mild winters. Sydney suburbs close to the ocean have lesser extreme temperatures then the western ones.
The warmest month is January, with an average air temperature of 18.6°C to 25.8°C. The maximum recorded temperature was 45.3°C on January 1939. The winter is mildly cool, with temperatures rarely dropping below +5 °C. The coldest month is July, with an average rangeing between 8.0°C and 16.2°C. The lowest recorded minimum was 2.1°C.
Rainfall is evenly divided between summer and winter. The average annual rainfall is 1217.0 millimetres (47.9 in), falling on an average 138.0 days a year. Snowfall last occurred in the Sydney City area in the 1830s.
Sydney does not have cyclones but is prone to severe hail and wind storms. The suburbs close to the bush land have experienced bush fires during spring and summer. Sydney is also prone to flash flooding from enormous amounts of rain that can cause major traffic chaos and damage in many parts of the metropolitan area.
And yes, global warming is here, the Bureau of Meteorology have reported that the last four years in Sydney have been the warmest on record.
